AWESOME hedge trimmer January 13, 2009 R. Johns (Monterey, CA) This hedge trimmer is simply amazing. In fact, I actually stopped my work using it out in the yard right now so I could come inside and write a review about it - that's how great this product is.
This is one of the best yard tools I own. I don't know how it stacks up to other hedgers, but I can say I'm in love with this Black & Decker Hedge Hog. Not only is it very light and easy to use, but I'm constantly amazed how well it works. I've used it to tackle the limbs on a fallen oak tree (which was about 12 feet tall), as well as three trees from my side yard. The great thing about this hedger is that it makes short work of branches. It will chop through branches up to 1/4 inch like they aren't even there. Even 1/2 thick branches don't slow it down much. If you run into something larger - say 5/8 or even 3/4 of an inch, just hold it on the branch for a second and let it go to work. In no time at all, it will saw its way through some pretty large branches on a tree. It's darn near like a small chain saw! :-) It will even get through branches in green wood that are up to about 1" in diameter without really complaining.
The power of this hedger is amazing, like I say. And it's very light, so you can use it all day long without getting tired from holding it. The handle near the back also gives you a good angle for your hands and also allows you to extend it pretty far up into the trees without having to get a ladder, etc.
The hedger has a little spot to catch the extension cord, which is nice so that it doesn't come unplugged. I've used the one I bought quite a bit and so far it shows no signs of letting up. It just does the job and doesn't complain.
Hats off to the folks at Black & Deck for building a great product. In this day and age of junk being sold to consumers that is produced at the lowest possible cost in China or India, this Dedge Hog is a welcome breath of fresh air.
I can highly recommend model HH2450 - it's an outstanding hand tool that is a joy to use.
Very good value. Cut through 3/4" branches. November 20, 2008 H. Wang (San Jose, CA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been using the 17" hedge trimmer for couple of years. The 17" hedge trimmer can only trim branches up to 3/8" and this is a very annoying limitation.
This 24" is far more better and powerful. First, the longer trimmer length indeed reduces the trimming time. Secondly, it easily cuts through 1/2" branches. For 3/4" branches, it takes a little while, but it still cuts them through (just hold the trimmer steady). Finally, it's still pretty light for long holding.
Overall, this product fits my expectation very well.
The product arrives with manufacturer's original box. That box does not hold up well during the shipment. Luckily, the trimmer itself does not get damaged. But I take 1 point out for that.
Best hedge trimmer we have ever owned. November 9, 2008 J. Lambert The thing cuts through bushes like butter. And the design is well balanced which reduces fatigue.
Hog is the best ! October 6, 2008 K. Lee (Philly) I've been using my fathers hedge trimmer. I wanted my own. I read the review for this and it is true. This is the best trimmer. It's way better than my fathers who has a Sears trimmer. It was worth every penny. I mean it.
Wife's new Hedge Hog October 3, 2008 Jeff (Houston, TX USA) I bought the 24-inch Hedge Hog for my wife to replace the old one she was using. When she held one at the local store she complained that it was too heavy (I hadn't told her that I had already ordered her one). Once the Hedge Hog arrived, and she used it, she fell in love with it because it cut and shaped the headges in a fraction of the time of the old one, plus it vibrated less. She told me it wasn't too heavy in action, thank goodness, or I might have had to take over the yard work. it's great to have a woman who likes yard work.
