Almost perfect. May 24, 2009 Morgan Archer (Tucson, AZ, USA) I'm truly sorry I can't give five stars. The thing that drops it down is the ability of the blade arm to bend up or down accidentally. This is not critical but could cause problems. Plus if the arm is bent the blades cannot move freely, therefore overheating the motor and not being able to cut at its impressive best. Otherwise it works like a hot knife through butter. (Who said that?) One thing I've found helpful is when I'm trimming off the bottoms of my bushes if I just turn over the trimmer the bottom of the handle gives me just as good a grip with two hands as the top. Plus, I don't have as much trouble with triggering it to turn off accidentally when I had it locked on.
SHARPEST TOOL IN THE SHED! May 17, 2009 Logic Boy 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was thinking to myself what would be a nice tool to have on hand to trim back some shrubs, some over grown thorny brush, small trees, etc. Okay, I have the lawn mower, a riding garden tractor, some misc hand tools, and a weed trimmer, but I knew I needed something for the shed that wasn't gas operated. Black & Decker a name that we all have known for a few decades for various rechargeable hand tools and flashlights quickly popped up in my search engine under the word hedger. Gang, the reviews on this were strong, and the price seemed very affordable so I decided to go for it, and boy after todays first use, I must say I made an excellent choice. I went with the cord and opted to refrain from rechargeable and with a long cord I'm able to reach deep into areas I often avoided with my other lawn equipment. Folks this little hedger operates like an oversize electric knife. Assembled in a breeze out of the box, only having to screw down the handle. It feels like an electric knife cutting through a hot stick of butter. This electric tool has the punch of Mike Tyson and the stability of a laser guided missle. I know nothing about hedge trimming, but somehow I think I'll be doing yard art with this tool soon. This thus far beats my expectations, and I will soon be hanging this one up in the new shed I'll be putting up next week. I would consider this to be lightweight and very easy to use. The only thing I found once in the course of an hour was the handle that I had to screw on came loose once about 1/2 hour into my project. I quickly retightened and went back to work without problem. Although, it maybe early to draw conclusion I will admit this may have been my fault I often don't like to over tighten for I'm afraid of stripping the screw, so with these it seems as if you may want to snug the handle on very tight, and that is what I did and finished out 1 hr of hedging without further incident. Yes, the cord can be a draw back and you want to be very cautious to always know where your cord is, for God forbid you get the line caught between those sharp blades! You,ll need a long extesnion to go far, but gang this tool is so quite and light the pros out weigh the cons. Last note be sure to wear eye protection and long sleeves if you'll be in the thick of some underbrush or rose bushes. Hope you found this review to be of help, and once again Amazon delivered this product exactly as described.
This thing is a beast! May 10, 2009 E. Weber (Hawaii) Tackles anything I throw at it. The lock-on is a bit tricky to get used to at first, but after that it's a pleasure to use.
I'm usually hesitant about B&D products, but this one is definitely the cream of the crop for electric trimmers.
Two thumbs up.
The Bushes Met Their Match March 29, 2009 chill_dog I have a lot of large bushes in my yard, and had gone through two small hedge trimmers over the years. The first one I got when I first bought the house and thought it would be enough (silly me); the second was slightly smaller than that one, but was free (a gift), so I used it. The first trimmer (B&D 18" model) lasted four years; the second (16" model) lasted two.
Two years later, this one is still going as strong as the day I got it. It makes trimming the bushes quick and easy. Last year I decided to cut some of my bushes back a little, and this went through even the really thick branches no problem. The thing I like about it he most is the anti-vibration technology. I think all of B&D's hedge trimmers have had this over the years, but the "new and improved" version in this trimmer is great. Even after spending hours trimming my hedges, my forearms aren't the least bit sore.
I am a firm believer that when it comes to tools, especially yard tools, the bigger/more powerful the better. If you have more than just a handful of bushes to trim, spend the couple of extra bucks and get this trimmer.
The right tool February 9, 2009 David B. Jennings (Beaufort, SC) I purchased this hedge trimmer for some recurring heavy-duty work. It replaced a worn-out gas powered trimmer, and I was concerned that an electric might not be powerful enough. WRONG. The new HH2450 Hedge Hog was much easier to use, even on the heaviest job. It seems more powerful, is lighter and easier to handle, and simply cuts more quickly without bogging down. Other differences: the vibration from the gas trimmer made my arms tingle for hours. Not so with the electric. No gas, no mixing fuel, no smelly exhaust, much less noise and vibration, and the electric is much lighter.
Drawbacks: Only that you must tote the electric cord around. Not that much of an issue in my opinion. Also, it is not a wimpy rechargeable that must, of course, be recharged.
I'm not a big Black & Decker fan. Some products have been fine, but others failed to meet expectations. B & D definitely got it right this time.
Also note: this trimmer can handle 3/4 inch branches. 3/8 inch might be OK for some applications, but not for me.
