As good as it sounds February 6, 2008 T. Volk (NJ) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Like others reviewing this trimmer I worried about the Black & Decker reputation- don't worry, it is as good as it sounds. I have a large yard and many large bushes and long hedges to sculpt. My previous trimmer (Sears 18") didn't die but it was beginning tear the greenery rather than cut, a result of the blade teeth bending away from each other top and bottom. I'm hoping that the "hardened" blades will not have this problem but it will take years to find out.
Best features: dual reciprocating blades really do make a huge difference! The Hedge Hog is heavier than my old one but much less tiring to use- very smooth. The excellent balance helps too. The "pigtail" cord attachment is simple and foolproof- I remember all the times I had to stop and re-attach the cord before. The "in-line" motor design elongates the handle which isn't a problem for me because I have long arms, but it also allows a little extra stretch to reach the very top of the arch in the hedge.
One safety note: the lock-on feature is very positive and stays locked even when you unplug the trimmer! This happened to me when I carelessly sliced through the cord (like butter) and after I spliced the cord back together I almost plugged it in again with the lock on. This could have been very dangerous as I was holding the trimmer. You have to treat this beast with respect or else hire a service. All in all a great job.
A couple of strange notes- my trimmer came without the cute silver paint job illustrated, makes no difference to me. Also, someone should tell Black & Decker that a Hedgehog is an shy, inoffensive European garden critter that eats grubs and earthworms and will roll up in a spiney ball if you get too close.
big bank for the buck January 27, 2008 Joe Miceli Ease of use, does what it was designed to do, reasonably priced.. makes this a great buy.
Another good B & D tool December 12, 2007 L. Quaglio A well built and sturdy piece of equipment. The longer cutting bar is a nice feature and makes trimming hedges easier. It cuts nicely and is easy to use. It's not very heavy so strain from continuous use is not a problem. All in all a worthy purchase at a good price and it was delivered promptly.
Great little budget trimmer November 30, 2007 M. Robinson (Sunland, CA) This has lived up to my expectations and does everything I wanted it to do. I like the straight line orientation as it seems to allow a little more reach when needed. Time will tell how the sharpness holds up as I've only used it a couple of times.

Black & Decker Hedge Hog 24-Inch Electric Dual Action Hedge Trimmer #HH2450 .. Trimmer works very well. Extra length is helpful. Enough power for most shrubbery. I wish I had bought it long ago.
