Works well...When it works. August 10, 2010 Hank (Butler, PA USA) The WG251 worked great for and hour. Then the internal gear mechanism started making an intermittent grinding noise which soon became constant. Called Worx and they had no help available over the phone. They would give me the number of a service location or I could ship it to them. I opened it up myself and found a spacer washer laying loose inside. The washer seems to keep a larger motor driven gear pressed down and aligned with the rest of the mechanism. I reinstalled the washer onto the gear shaft and its worked fine ever since. It appears Worx only uses the plastic cover to keep the washer in place so it may come out again. We'll see.
It cuts pretty well, up to branch diameters Worx advertised. Its very light and convenient to use. The battery lasts over an hour - I never have used the battery up before finishing my trim work. It works for me on my light trimming around my home. In hindsight, if I had large hedges or a lot of regular trim work to do I would probably buy something more heavy duty.
If only it cut. August 6, 2010 C. Brady (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My WORX 251 hedge trimmer is cordless. Other than that, I don't like it. It does not cut well at all. I have to move it v-e-r-y slowly on anything except light, new growth to get it to trim a bush, and even then have to make several passes and it still pushes many twigs out of the way rather than cut them. I have a very old Black and Decker corded hedge trimmer, and I got this WORX cordless one so I wouldn't have to mess with the cord far from the house. Also, I can tell the old one isn't cutting as well as it used to--but it's still miles better than the new one. The old Black and Decker zooms through the same bushes that I have to struggle through with the WORX. I end up bringing the corded one over to finish up the areas that the WORX one wouldn't cut. Also, the WORX doesn't have a blade close to the tip, so along the hedge that grows up to the cement I have to either use hand clippers or my old B&D because the WORX cannot cut close to the ground (the B&D buzzes right through it).
Also, my old trimmer only required one hand on the trimmer to activate, so I could angle and reach to shape around the bushes. This new WORX one requires both hands solidly on the trimmer and my arms cannot contort to shape around the bush like that. I'm sure "both hands on" is a safety feature, but my frustration with this trimmer does not lead to safe thoughts.
Great for light duty...for a month August 4, 2010 Tom Then the battery would not charge. Called and reported the issue to Worx. A month later called again and was told no record of my prior call or email. Waiting...waiting. Customer service does not seem to be important. At this point STAY Away for this product.
Lightweight and effective August 4, 2010 James R. Meyer (Kansas City, KS USA) I got my Worx lithium hedgetrimmer, charged the battery and tried it out on some yew hedges in front, plus an out-of-control bush in the back. This little thing can cut through anything that will fit between the serrated teeth on the cutting bar, about 3/8". Very fast, light and easy to maneuver. I ran it for about 45 minutes and it still had enough juice to keep going, even though I was hot and tired. It won't completely replace my Echo gas trimmer, which can cut through branches up to about 1/2", but I will use it for everything else that is within reach. Seems very well engineered and built. A little expensive compared with other electric trimmers, but I have no regrets after using it. It is perfect for routine maintenance of small to medium-sized hedges. Even my wife likes it, and she normally hates manual labor.
WORX WG251.5 20-Inch 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Dual-Action Hedge Trimmer August 3, 2010 Charles Coe 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the WORX WG251.5 20-Inch 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Dual-Action Hedge Trimmer for light touch-up work, (I use an electric trimmer for the heavy work). It worked fine the first few times, but then the battery began to lose it's charge after five minutes or less. I DO NOT RECOMMEND the WORX WG251.5 20-Inch 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Dual-Action Hedge Trimmer.
